Why we are running

because we are physically able to run and walk, whereas our friends and neighbors suffering from Multiple Sclerosis may not be able to.

We walk in particular for:

Denise M.

Denise is 39 years old with a 10 yr. old son and has lived with MS everyday since being diagnosed 14 years ago. She has relapses about every 10-12 months, which knock her down for a couple months each, and her body has rejected all the current drug therapies. Yet, Denise is hopeful for new experimental meds coming soon. She is also the kindest, most generous, most uplifting person that I know. Her will to live a long, happy life has inspired me to organize the MS Miles of Smiles Run/Walk, now going into its 5th year.

When most people hear the words MS Society they probably think they help people with Multiple Sclerosis. That's very true, but I'll bet very few people can even guess how extensive that help can be.
As a person with MS myself I have seen first hand many of the good works that they do for me and many others. Starting with my first experience with them 10 years ago and through all of my highs and lows, they just want to listen and help in any way they can.
I'm writing this, not because anyone asked me to, but because I believe it's so important to get the word out about successful fund raising events like the "Women on the Move" luncheon and other events that enable the MS Society to make such a huge difference in so many people's lives.
Here are just some of the ways The National MS Society helps all people with MS:

Cash assistance for things like
- health insurance
- ADA access for the home
- air conditioning
- more

Guidance on issues like
- health insurance
- choosing doctors
- legal issues
- mental health for patients and caregivers
- family counseling
- occupational training and things like driving longer

Exercise programs to keep patients mobile and more in control of their
- own lives
- yoga
- aqua programs
- exercise in general and PT

Opportunities to volunteer to help others
- Christmas gifts for shut ins and nursing home patients with MS

Perhaps most important they let you know that you are not alone
